Young woman suffers burn wounds in electricity protest

SHARPEVILLE.- Nomsa Sikhosana (24) is one of the victims left injured after the Tshepiso Phase 5 North, Sharpeville community protested over electricity recently.

Sikhosana has suffered third degree burns on both her feet after unwittingly falling into a fire that was lit during the protest when the community member clashed with the police who were apparently firing rubber bullets at them.
Nomsa Sikhosana (24) suffered third degree burns on her feet during a recent electricity protest in Tshepiso North Phase 5, Sharpeville.
The community claimed that they had been without electricity for weeks which forced them to take their frustration to the streets which resulted in clashes with police.
Speaking to Vaalweekblad, community leader, Thabo Raleetoana said that they were waiting for a doctor’s report to open a case against the police.
When asked about Sikhosana’s situation, Raleetoana said as the community they are trying everything to help the young woman to get medical assistance.
Raleetoana said they intend to open a Trust Fund for the young woman to get the much needed help.
“As the Phase 5 community we call for help for this young woman to get assistance because of her situation at home. “We are appealling to good Samaritans to come on board to help this family not only with medication but with food parcels because for a person to take medicine they must eat something as well,” he said.
