• South Africa have been recording an average of 20,000 new cases a day
• There are over 200,000 active cases in the country.
• We have reported over 4,000 deaths in the last 2 weeks.
• Gauteng accounts for more than 50% of the infections but they are increasing in most provinces.
• By next week the hospitals in the country will likely reach the occupancy levels that they were at during the peak of the first wave.
• The country will be maintained at adjusted alert level 4 for the next 14 days until the 25th of July.
• All gatherings remain prohibited.
• The curfew remains in place from 9pm-4am.
• The sale of alcohol remains prohibited.
• Schools will remain closed until the 26th of July.
• Restaurants and eateries will be able to operate while observing strict health protocols and cannot accommodate more than 50 people or 50% capacity.
• Gyms and fitness centers will be able to open with 50% capacity.
• Over 4,2 million people in South Africa have received a vaccination dose with 1 million of those being done in the last 7 days.
• Over 190,000 people are being vaccinated every week day.
• From the 15th of July those over 35 will be able to register with vaccinations starting on the 1st of August.
• All provinces are working to vaccinate individuals 6-7 days a week.
• All sites will accept walk ins but the process will be faster if you register before.
• The African Union and the European Union have formed an agreement to provide over 17 million Johnson & Johnson vaccines to South Africa and other African countries which is expected to take place during the course of July.
• South Africa is working with Johnson & Johnson to produce and distribute our own vaccines internally.
• The United States has donated 15 million Pfizer vaccines to African countries through COVAX.
• The CoronaVac vaccine from China has been approved for use in South Africa.
• The UIF will be extending the COVID-19 scheme to sectors that have been effected by the alert level 4.
