Woman lives in fear after taxi nightmare

A woman from Sharpeville lives in fear after she got into the wrong taxi recently.

SHARPEVILLE. – The woman told Ster that she was on her way to Vanderbijlpark to buy her child nappies and milk when the incident happened.

“My friend accompanied me to the main road where we normally board taxis and we stopped a Quantum taxi that was headed to Vanderbijlpark. I got into the taxi and my friend went home.”

The woman says there were two men sitting in the taxi behind the driver. The woman says while on the way, she noticed that the taxi was driving to the opposite direction.

“When I asked why the taxi was headed in the wrong direction, the two men held me and told me to lie down. A third man who was hiding at the back also helped. I tried fighting to get out of the taxi but the men overpowered me. They assaulted me”

The woman said one of the men was holding a gun. “They instructed me to do as they say. They took my cell phone and money. They also took my bank card and asked if it had money in it. I told them the money they took was the only money and that my bank card had no available funds.

“They asked for the pin and told me not to block my card as I was getting paid soon. They dropped me off in Vanderbijlpark and I managed to get help from a Good Samaritan who took me home.”

The woman says all those using taxis must be vigilant.

“Don’t just get into any taxi. Travel in groups if you have to in order to be safe. These people are dangerous.”

The woman has since opened a case with the Vanderbijlpark SAPS.

Police Spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale confirms that an armed robbery case docket has been opened for investigation.
