South African-born children’s author Eleni Theodorou, proves her commitment to grades R-2 learners back home in South Africa through her children’s series called Noko The Knight®.

Eleni Theodorou, based in New Jersey, U.S.A., holds degrees in psychology from the University of Pretoria and her Masters degree in psychology from Capella University in the United States. Using her educational background and experience in teaching, Ms. Theodorou developed a unique approach to the prickly topic of bullying and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) based on her Noko The Knight® series, and has successfully served schools across the U.S.

Many school districts continue to collaborate with Ms. Theodorou in a purposeful effort to reduce incidents of bullying, increasing awareness around the importance of Social Emotional Learning, and the direct impact thereof on classroom harmony, quality of relationships in and out of school, as well as learners’ academic progress.

By educating learners, parents and teachers about the deep value of Social Emotional Learning, schools and parents can thereby proactively prevent the debilitating effects of bullying – not only on those experiencing bullying, but also for those who witness the event, the families involved, and the rippling effect on the community at large.

The author has a natural talent for captivating and engaging young learners through her colourful anti-bullying programs called “Noko Busts Bullying!” and “Learning With Noko!” SEL curriculum. These multi-sensory, culturally-rich experiences teach learners about the power of choice, accountability, and the impact of their behaviour on others, and come with mini animated videos.

This holistic campaign has been extensively designed to encourage young listeners to adopt lasting, prosocial behaviour towards those around them – including animals –  thereby enhancing their experience of love, work, and play. It also encourages children to be upstanding and productive citizens.

With great success in the U.S., and the deep understanding of the urgency of implementing such programs in high stress environments during the early developmental years when children are most impressionable, Eleni Theodorou initiates her “Learning With Noko!” SEL curriculum at schools in South Africa this January. Children will be inspired to learn the Art of Compassion; the lifetime value of respect, kindness, forgiveness, and cultural appreciation.
