Members of the Maccauvlei Golf Club can take pride in the fact that they belong to a very distinguished and respected institution which has made a significant contribution to the game of golf in South Africa and the development of the Vaal Triangle. The club also has a remarkably colourful history which has involved many famous people both in SA and abroad.

The strength of the club is vested primarily in the enthusiasm, attitude and support of members but also in the goodwill and interest of all fellow citizens who share in the successes, and indeed the very existence of the course.

Maccauvlei Golf Club was established in 1926. It is one of the few clubs to have retained their original clubhouse from the 1920s. The interior radiates character, particularly the lounge at the main entrance with all its memorabilia. The original architect was George Peck, while finishing touches were credited to Major SV Hotchkin in 1929, an illustrious British course designer. Four South African Open Championships were hosted here from the 1920’s to 1940’s. More recently Maccauvlei golf course undertook a major reconstruction under the watchful eye of the renowned golf course architect, Peter Matkovich.

Today Maccauvlei still holds its own in the top 50 courses in the country, and according to Golf Digest, offers the best “play” value versus cost per round among these top courses. Maccauvlei’s golfers can enjoy their game in a peaceful setting of trees, with the possibility of seeing various wildlife and a variety of birds.

Conference Facilities

Maccauvlei’s Clubhouse includes a function venue that can be used for weddings, conferences, parties and other functions. Members can use the facility free of charge and members of the public can book the facilities on request. Accommodation for visitors is found adjacent to the club within walking distance. The Dormy House, which once provided an overnight stop for the Prince of Wales in 1925, and was used as a training camp for officers in World War 11, adjoins the 10th hole. The centre is built around the classic architecture of the original buildings and offers all modern technical aids, fine cuisine and accommodation which includes rooms and chalets in a garden setting. Here you’ll also find recreational facilities – not only golf – for large or small groups. A most agreeable introduction to the charms of the course.
