Urgent Media Release from the organisers of the 2023 Midvaal Fast One Cycle Challenge

As a result of a multitude of circumstances, several radical changes had to be made regarding Sunday's Cycle Challenge in Midvaal.

The Organisers of the 2023 Midvaal Fast One Cycle Challenge writes on behalf of the Rotary Club of Riverside:

The 2023 edition of the Midvaal Fast One Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday January 29. Due to a multitude of circumstances, to which the chaotic condition of the roads is a major contributing factor (but not the only one), the Organisers of the 2023 Midvaal Fast One had to take several radical decisions. They were not easy but had to be taken.
Some of those decisions include:
• Devise a new route, where pot holes could still be repaired or reasonably fixed, and that would offer a good measure of safety for the riders (the previous route had starches that are not possible to fix any more);
• The Organisers and the Midvaal Municipality are spending a lot of effort and money to have the pot holes repaired so that cyclists may ride safely;
• Due to financial constraints, we had to cancel the Elite & U23 category, the U16/Juniors category and the Elite Ladies category;
• We have included the Veterans, so Vets will be able to participate. There will be the mandatory Commissairs and photo finish;
• Although we will not be able to pay for the disappointment, inconvenience and frustration that our decision may cause, the Organisers will refund every one that entered in those categories (and paid the entry fee);
• In due course, via email, phone or other means, we will ask the affected entrants to provide us their banking details, in order for us to refund them of their entry fee;
• Should you wish rather to donate the entry fee towards our Community Projects, we will be most thankful for your kind gesture.
With this press release we trust to have explained the situation(s) that we faced, decisions we made and hereby offer our sincere apologies.
Thank you.
