Midvaal wishes local athletes well on trip to Italy
The Midvaal Local Municipality extended its heartfelt well-wishes to three local athletes - Shaun Van Wyk, Kuhle Gilli, and Jeffrey Ells, as they embark on their journey to Italy to compete in the prestigious 7th Edition of the Giochi del Tricolore (Tricolour Games).
MIDVAAL. – The games were established in 1997, bringing together athletes from various backgrounds to foster social, educational, and intercultural opportunities for the youth.
The international games feature young athletes who participate in various sporting codes such as athletics, swimming, basketball, chess, football and rugby.
The three Midvaal athletes will form part of a team of 131 young athletes (under 16 years) from across Gauteng.
Shaun Van Wyk from Hoërskool Dr. Malan will be participating in rugby, Kuhle Gilli from New Hope Secondary School will demonstrate her skills in football, and Jeffrey Ells, also from Hoërskool Dr. Malan, will take part in the Chess tournament.
The team will be departing from OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday, 22 July 2023, and will proudly represent South Africa throughout the competition, returning home on Monday, 31 July 2023.
