MEYERTON. – Sixteen-year-old local racer, Daniel Lotter, made an impressive performance recently, securing victory in the third and final heat of the Budget Racing series at Midvaal Raceway.

Hailing from Vaalpark and a pupil at Transvalia High School, Daniel’s love for racing began at a very young age when he started driving a car even before he began primary school.

His mom, Louise, recalls how he used to adjust the car seat to reach the pedals so he could drive the Beach Buggy he received as a gift.

However, Daniel’s official racing career only began in April of the current year, as he had to reach the age of sixteen before he could enter competitive racing events.

He has the full support of his family, with his mother, uncle, and siblings cheering him on during races.

His older sister, Luhandri Lotter, who is 24 years old, takes on the role of head mechanic during these events, all while maintaining her perfectly groomed nails.

The Budget Racing series, hosted at Midvaal Raceway, offers a unique format. It consists of a six-lap race where competitors start based on their qualifying times. The slowest qualifier takes the green light first, followed by the rest of the field, ensuring that by the last lap, the racers who started last should have caught up with those who started first.

This format adds an element of excitement for both participants and spectators.

Last Saturday’s event allowed spectators to enjoy the races with free entrance, providing a thrilling morning of racing for those in attendance.
