Woman rescued and stolen vehicle recovered

SASOLBURG. - On June 7 at approximately 20:30 the quick-thinking team at Fidelity ADT rescued a victim and recovered a stolen vehicle.

Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing & Communication says “We received intel about a planned abduction in the vicinity of Snakepark, in Zamdela.

On further investigation, it was discovered that armed suspects travelling in a white KIA Picanto from Gauteng had forcibly taken a female victim to a graveyard adjacent to Thembalethu Flats.

The suspects forced her to transfer funds via a banking app into their bank accounts.

Fortunately, the Fidelity ADT team, already on high alert, spotted a vehicle matching the description at Thembalethu Flat.

Upon their approach, the suspects fled, abandoning the Kia Picanto.

The owner of the vehicle  was contacted and confirmed that her boyfriend had reported the vehicle hijacked and was on his way to Moroka SAPS.

The suspects were apprehended and handed over to Zamdela SAPS.

Safety tips for motorists:

1 – Do not stop to anyone if you suspect that the person might be a bogus officer. Drive to the nearest Police station, shopping complex or any other busy area.

2 – Do not drive to your residential area as you could then be followed home.

3 – Do not stop at a deserted spot or area to talk on your phone or even relieve yourself.

4 – Always keep your windows closed.

5 – If someone tries to force you out of the road, don’t panic but just blow your horn constantly to draw attention.

A hijacking can be a terrifying and traumatic experience. Do not be afraid to speak to a friend or counsellor after the experience.
