MIDVAAL – In a heartwarming display of kindness and generosity, students from Henley High and Preparatory School recently came together for a special initiative to bring smiles to children in need. The school organized a teddy bear and toy donation drive, benefiting the Life Line Vaal Vereeniging Safe Home.
The initiative, spearheaded by the school’s Kindness Project, aimed to collect comfort items that would brighten the lives of children residing at the safe home. Students enthusiastically participated, donating a variety of teddy bears and toys, each carefully chosen to bring joy and companionship to their recipients.

“We wanted to do something meaningful for children who may be going through difficult times,” said Mrs Jaqui Shaw, teacher and the organizer of the project. “These teddy bears and toys represent our collective effort to show that we care and that they are not alone.”

The Life Line Vaal Vereeniging Safe Home, which provides a safe haven for children who have experienced abuse or are in vulnerable situations, expressed gratitude for the donations.
The Kindness Project is part of the schools’ broader commitment to instilling empathy and compassion in their students. Principal Ms Michelle Roelofse emphasized the importance of such initiatives in shaping well-rounded individuals. “Teaching our students the value of kindness and community service is so important over and above academic achievement,” she stated. “We are proud of our students for their initiative and generosity.”

The teddy bear and toy donation drive not only benefited the children at the safe home but also fostered a sense of unity and compassion among the students of Henley High and Preparatory School. It served as a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
