Vaal Triangle to host Gauteng Chess Championship for the first time

VANDERBIJLPARK – The Sedibeng Chess region is proud to announce that it has been selected to host the prestigious Gauteng Inter-Region Chess Championship on 6 and 7 December.

The event will take place at the renowned Emerald Resort & Casino, marking a significant milestone as the championship comes to the Vaal Triangle for the very first time.

Sedibeng Chess has expressed immense pride and gratitude for the opportunity. A spokesperson stated, “We are enormously proud and grateful to have been chosen to host this event. It’s a monumental first for our region.”

The championship is expected to attract between 900 and 1,200 players from across Gauteng and beyond. Participants will compete in a team-based format and will range in age from just eight years old to seniors over 50, highlighting the broad appeal and inclusivity of the tournament.

Regions expected to participate include Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg Metro, Tshwane, West Rand, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, and Sedibeng. The event is also expected to draw a large number of spectators, with around 1,500 parents and supporters anticipated to attend and cheer on the players.
