EVATON.- The Sedibeng members of the United Domestic Workers of South Africa (UDWOSA) converged at the former Boikakho Primary School in Evaton last weekend.

Amongst other things, the workers, who came from all over the Vaal and Soweto, discussed the following:

• Irregular working hours (overtime payment)
• Unfair treatment and dismissals
• Injuries at work
• Dog (Pit Bull) attacks
• Unfair salaries
• Salaries

Pinky Mashiane, UDWOSA President encouraged those in attendance to fight for their rights. She also encouraged them to recruit more members so that their ‘word’ can be heard and not be treated like second-hand citizens.

Those in attendance were also lectured on the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA), which allows other workers to claim for injuries sustained at work.

Amongst other things, UDWOSA fights for domestic workers’ rights and aims to stop abnormal hours, workers being fed rotten food, injured at work and the injuries not promptly taken care of, and ensure they are paid the wages they deserve.
