Tharollo Afrika Organisation hosts ‘Kasilympic’ games

“Our event brought fun and adventure and a positive impact to the children."

BOPHELONG.- Young and old gathered at Asedi Community Centre in Muvhango, Bophelong to participate in the ‘Kasilympic’s games on Saturday.

Tharollo Afrika Organisation organised these games with the main purpose of being inspired by African games with children participating in indigenous games, soccer, dance, and music among other activities on the day. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Tharrollo Africa founder, Zanele Sebiloane said this event will take place every three months to keep children active and educated about the games.

“Our event brought fun and adventure and a positive impact to the children. We do educational entertainment in the form of games.  I’m very pleased to see that we have made Bophelong what it means “A place of life”.

This event was attended by Provincial Sports, Arts, and Culture officials, local councilors, SAPS, National Youth Services, and the community at large. The day’s program started with face painting with the organisers painting every child who participated in the games.

In addition, Baleni said the games were more about developing, liberating, and educating children in the communities. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that when they established this organisation back in 2019, the aim was to bring a positive impact in the community to make a black child productive.

The event was part of the school holidays program with most of the children idling while schools are closed. It was interesting to see children play ‘morararaba’ which is one of the oldest African games.  Young Dieketseng Musi who is 7-years-old told Sedibeng Ster Sport that her brother taught her to play morabaraba. She was one of the children who was brilliant on the day playing this indigenous game.

However, her opponent, Tharollo Sebiloane who is also 7 years old said she did not know how to play morabaraba but learned from her opponent how to play it.
