Suid-Afrikaners gaan op 29 Mei na die stembusse om in Suid-Afrika se sewende vrye en regverdige verkiesing sedert die totstandkoming van ‘n demokrasie te stem.

Vaalweekblad het by ‘n paar lesers gaan uitvind waarom hulle later vandeesmaand hul kruisie gaan trek:

Cobus Cato van Vanderbijlpark: “Primêr om ‘n nuwe regering daar te stel wat prosesse en stelsels in plek kan bring om ons land weer op te bou oor tyd en leefbare omgewings te skep.”

Elsje Vermeulen, redakteur van Vaalweekblad: “Want elke stem tel en is nodig vir ‘n nuwe (of ten minste) ‘n koalisieregering.”

Jane Erasmus from Midvaal: “I feel it’s imperative especially for the youth to participate in the upcoming elections.  This is our 1994, only that we are facing far more serious challenges than the youth back then…high unemployment rate, a mere 30% passing rate which cannot afford you any prosperous future in this country, an alarming statistical raise in GBV, poor infrastructure, poor health care…the list goes on and on. If we do not take a stand and make out voices heard, we stand to lose our beautiful country. The Constitution should serve the citizens of this country, and therefor we should actively participate in any way that we can to make an impact and what better way than to make your mark on 29 May 2024? We were made to exist in a time like this where we are put in a position to take the lead because every vote counts so I encourage everyone to participate in the elections, more especially the youth as we are the future leaders of this country and this is the time to leave a footprint in the history of South Africa.”

*Danelle Dreyer, Meyerton: “Naomi Klein (author) said: ‘Democracy is not just the right to vote, but the right to live in dignity.’ We need to restore our country, South Africa’s dignity, and the dignity of our people.” Nothing changes, if nothing changes. Go and vote for change. This country needs it!

Jacques Loots, Meyerton: “Om te stem is ‘n fundamentele element van ons demokrasie. Dit is ons as publiek se geleentheid om aktief by te dra tot die vorming van die toekoms van Suid-Afrika. Dit is ons kans om te stem vir beter dienslewering, beter politici en ‘n beter toekoms vir almal.”

*Morne Broekman van Meyerton: “Die verkiesing op hande gaan net werk as ons self begin om te verander hoe ons dinge elke dag doen, verandering begin by jouself. Respek vir jouself, en vir elke persoon met wie jy te doen het elke dag. Integriteit wanneer niemand kyk, daardie basiese regte ding om te doen, want dit is wie ek is. Dit sluit alle generasies in, ongeag kultuur.”
