Upon arrival it was discovered that the foreign national was allegedly writing learner licence tests for four applicants who were not present to write.

VANDERBIJILPARK.- An examiner of licences and a foreign national have been arrested in Vanderbijlpark connection with driving licence fraud.

The 41-year-old examiner and 31-year-old Zimbabwean national were caught when members of the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s (RTMC) National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit (NTACU) paid a surprise visit to the Vanderbijlpark driving licence testing centre on Friday, July 5, to check compliance with regulations.

When they inspected the classroom where learner licences are, the members found the foreign national writing the test with the examiner purportedly supervising.

In a statement Road Traffic Management spokesperson, Simon Zwane, said upon arrival questioning and examination of the room, it was discovered that the foreign national was allegedly writing learner licence tests for four applicants who were not present to write.

The two suspects were immediately put in handcuffs and taken to nearby police station.

According to Zwane large sum of cash was found in their possession.

The suspects were locked upon at Boipatong police pending their court appearance for bail application.

Investigations are continuing and members of NTACU and the Hawks are searching for the four applicants.

Meanwhile the learner licences which had already been issued will be cancelled.

Zwane warned members of the public to desist from colluding with unscrupulous officials in licensing departments as this will land them in jail with criminal records which will negatively affect their employment prospects.

Members of the public are urged to report fraud and corruption on the following WhatsApp number 083 293 7989.
