Diligent detective work secures 12-year prison sentence for convicted murderer

The detective was applauded by the station commander for her dedication an excellent work.

MEYERTON. – A man who fatally stabbed another man after an argument at the Meyerton taxi rank, was convicted of murder and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.

This comes after the 36-year-old Doctor Mokake fatally stabbed Steven Morena with a knife at the Meyerton taxi rank, near PJ’s Tavern on 1 November 2023.

It is alleged that the two men had an argument before prior to the incident.

According to Const Tlaleng Moloi, a spokesperson for the police in Meyerton, the victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A murder case was opened and assigned to Detective Sergeant Innocentia Mofokeng for investigation.

She immediately started with the investigation, searching for the suspect and making sure to leave no stone unturned.

The detective, together with crime prevention member Constable Madikane followed all the leads, until they arrested Mokake and charged him with murder.

Meyerton station commander, Colonel Senzangakhona Christopher Mohale, acknowledged the excellent investigative skills displayed by Detective Sergeant Mofokeng and applauded her for her dedication an excellent work.

He further expressed his gratitude to Constable Madikane for going beyond the call of duty and lastly complimented the community members who were witnesses to the crime, because through their testimonies, justice was served.
