Sports fraternity mourn the passing of Sensei Maqabe

“My brother was down to earth and loved karate. Many people loved him. As a family, we valued his soft personality. He was a kind person who put others first.”

SEBOKENG.- The sports fraternity mourned the passing of Vaal Dojo Karate Club Sensei Buti Maqabe.

Sedibeng Ster Sport learned of this shocking news through social media. When verifying the news with the family, his heartbroken sister Selinah Maqabe confirmed to Sedibeng Ster that indeed her brother passed on on November 1.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Selinah said her brother died at Sebokeng Hospital after a long illness. The community of Zone 11 will never be the same without Maqabe who was passionate about changing the lives of young people through his karate teachings.

He featured several times in the Sedibeng Ster Newspaper with his karate club doing exceptionally well when participating in the tournaments across Gauteng. His team usually brings home trophies and medals. Maqabe used to perform miracles that involved pulling big trucks, breaking bricks, and fighting bulls to demonstrate his strength. According to Selinah, her family has lost a brother, father, and a friend.

Maqabe is described as a humble soul who cares about others, especially the children who form part of the Vaal Dojo Karate Club. Selinah said can’t recall seeing her brother angry or upset regardless of the circumstances.

“My brother was down to earth and loved karate. Many people loved him. As a family, we valued his soft personality. He was a kind person who put others first.”

Sensei Maqabe leaves behind his 14-year-old son. He will be laid to rest on Saturday and the funeral service will take place at house No13746 Kgatso Street in Zone 11 next to Moqaka Secondary School.

The memorial service will take place at Rorisa Centre next to Sebokeng Gym on Thursday from 14:00.
