SASOLBURG – The political pot is boiling over in the Fezile Dabi District Municipality as the latest Motion of No Confidence (MONC) drama exploded into chaos.
The battle between the DA and other parties in the district is nothing short of a municipal soap opera. Just when a battle in the embattled district municipality cools down, another political drama surfaces.
Just recently, the DA held a press briefing following a leaked report to a national publication implicating the district mayor in corruption.
Shots aimed at the ruling party were fired without mincing words during the explosive response presser.
As the ink on newspapers dried out and print paper started to decay, another attempted political sabotage played out.
This week saw the EFF attempt to dethrone both the DA Speaker and executive mayor in a fiery showdown that left councillors shouting, security scrambling, and Facebook buzzing.
An EFF leader April Motaung took to social media with guns blazing, accusing DA Speaker Sidney Pittaway of refusing to step down during the hearing of a motion against him.
EFF claims he went rogue and illegally unleashed security guards to eject Dibetso Serapela mid-meeting.
“The DA is doing this to protect their corruption, and the EFF will fight DA corruption in Fezile Dabi District Municipality,” he said.
Motaung also pointed fingers at ‘dodgy’ borehole deals and questionable pavement projects in Tweeling and Villiers.
As the showdown continued, the DA issued a statement brushing it all off as a political ploy.
DA’s Fezile Dabi Constituency Head Igor Scheurkogel clapped back, calling the failed motion “opportunistic” and driven by desperate political grandstanding.
“This opportunistic motion, driven by political agendas, was defeated after the EFF disrupted proceedings and left the council chamber, realising that the stability and visible progress in the district could not be denied, all thanks to the strong governance of the DA,” he said.
Scheurkogel said Fezile Dabi remains one of the few municipalities that stands out as a beacon of hope and good governance in the Free State, where clean administration, transparent financial management, and dependable service delivery have become hallmarks. Providing receipts, Scheurkogel said, “1 000+ LED lights were donated to municipalities, skills training for 60 EPWP participants, and an anti-corruption partnership with the SIU. The DA claims they’re walking the walk while others just talk.”
Throwing a final jab, Scheurkogel said, “These repeated attempts to unseat effective leadership only confirm what we already know: the DA is delivering real progress, and the wreckers of South Africa are running out of ideas.”
