The Athletics Vaal Triangle (AVT) Cross Country League for 2025 is all set to launch, bringing together athletes from across the region in a series of competitive meets.

The league will span from May to August, featuring seven exciting events for runners of all ages and abilities.

The season begins on May 10 at the Vaal University of Technology, organised by Dimathi Sports Promotions in collaboration with the university.

Following this, the second meet will take place on May 31 at Khanya Lesedi School, hosted by Khanya Lesedi Athletic Club.

June 14 marks the third meet, with the venue to be announced soon. This event will be hosted by Boxer Athletic Club.

On June 28, the league moves to George Thabe Stadium in Sharpeville, where Future Champs and Lekoa Athletic Clubs will join forces for a thrilling day of cross country action.

The fifth meet will take place on July 12 at Hoërskool Driehoek, organised by Driehoek Athletic Club.

On August 2, athletes will head to Kollegepark Primary School for Meet 6, hosted by Nedbank Athletic Club.

The final event of the league will be held on August 9, with the venue still to be confirmed, once again organised by Boxer Athletic Club.

The season will culminate in the prestigious ASA Cross Country Championships at Kees Taljaard Stadium in Middelburg on September 6.

Beaulah Valentin, AVT’s Cross Country chairperson, has issued a circular to clubs, urging athletes to familiarise themselves with the regulations for the season.

She emphasised the importance of participation in the AVT Cross Country Championships on August 9 for those aiming to qualify for the AVT team.

For the first time this year, qualifying times will be introduced for athletes wishing to compete at the ASA Championships, with full details available in the regulations.

With the season fast approaching, athletes are encouraged to register with AVT-affiliated clubs, ensure they meet the required conditions, and be prepared for a thrilling cross country season.
