BARRAGE – The police have recovered four of six cattle recently reported stolen in the area and arrested two suspects, following a joint operation led by local law enforcement and community structures.

According to a statement issued by Sergeant Sophia Gaboutlwelwe, spokesperson for the Barrage police on behalf of Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Y. Dlamini, the operation was made possible after a tip-off was received.

A coordinated response team consisting of members from the Barrage SAPS, the Stock Theft Unit, the local Neighbourhood Watch (VIU), and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) was quickly mobilised.

The collaborative effort led to the successful recovery of four cattle and the apprehension of two suspects believed to be connected to the theft. The search for the remaining two cattle continues.

According to Gaboutlwelwe , the Barrage SAPS has been dealing with an increase in theft and stock theft cases in recent weeks.

This particular recovery is being highlighted by the station as an example of how effective cooperation between police and community structures can lead to positive outcomes in the fight against rural crime.

Lt Col Dlamini has encouraged livestock owners to ensure their animals are brand marked, stating that this played a key role in identifying and recovering the stolen cattle.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity promptly to assist police in curbing ongoing stock theft in the region.

Further investigations are underway, and the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
