WATCH: Residents dump trash at Sedibeng offices in ongoing service delivery protest
WATCH: Gatvol residents dump trash at Sedibeng offices — again.
VEREENIGING – Another video has gone viral on social media showing Emfuleni residents dumping uncollected rubbish at the entrance of a government building — this time, the Sedibeng District Municipality’s office the CBD.
Watch video here:
The footage shows refuse bags blocking the building’s main entrance, a clear act of protest over months of non-collection. According to residents, the rubbish had been left to rot in their neighbourhoods for more than five months.
The Vaal Business Cooperation (VBC), a non-profit organisation formed by business leaders in Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark, reshared the video, stating:
“Yesterday AGAIN residents of the most dysfunctional municipality called Emfuleni Local Municipality showed that they are GATVOL for the lack of service delivery by dumping uncollected refuse… YESTERDAY RESIDENTS SAW A MIRACLE WHEN A REFUSE TRUCK SUDDENLY APPEARED TO CLEAN UP. We as residents are still in shock today.”

This incident follows a similar protest earlier this month when residents dumped trash at the entrance of the Emfuleni Civic Centre during a two-day municipal summit on service delivery.
Residents have pointed out a recurring pattern: rubbish dumped at government institutions is cleared almost immediately, while refuse in their communities is left to pile up for weeks or even months.
The video adds to growing public frustration over poor service delivery, as the Emfuleni Local Municipality continues to face severe financial and operational challenges.
