Police nab suspects driving without lights, uncover stolen copper

The suspects are expected to appear in court on charges of possession of suspected stolen property, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition.

A trio was arrested on June 19 after being nabbed with an unlicensed firearm, live ammunition, and stolen copper.

According to Vanderbijlpark police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu, while patrolling, their officers noticed a suspicious vehicle driving without lights.

“Our officers immediately forced the suspects to stop and tactically got the occupants out of the vehicle. The occupants and their vehicle were searched.”

During the search, one unlicensed firearm loaded with a magazine and six live rounds of ammunition was recovered. Police also seized chopped copper cables.

The suspects are expected to appear in court on charges of possession of suspected stolen property, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition. Investigations into the matter continue.
