Man electrocuted while allegedly stealing railway cable in Henley on Klip

A suspected cable thief’s final act ended in a fatal jolt.

MEYERTON – A man was electrocuted and died on the scene while allegedly trying to steal electrical cable from a railway line in Henley on Klip on Thursday afternoon, July 17.

According to Constable Nompumelelo Zazini spokesperson for the Meyerton police, officers were called out at around 14:00 to the scene on the railway line, where they found the body of an unknown male lying on the ground.

The man was wearing a blue tracksuit top, black Adidas takkies, and black, red, and white Adidas tracksuit pants. He is believed to have been electrocuted while tampering with the railway infrastructure.

The man’s identity is currently unknown. His body was transported to the Sebokeng Government Mortuary for further investigation and identification.

Police confirmed that a section of the railway cable had been cut.

An inquest docket has been opened.
