MEYERTON –  Police in Meyerton are investigating a murder and robbery after a man was killed during a home invasion at a smallholding in Kookfontein, Meyerton, on Thursday night.

According to police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, the incident occurred at approximately 22:00 on 20 February 2026.

The complainant, a 33-year-old Malawian national, reported that the deceased had briefly left the house to use the toilet. Upon returning, he allegedly failed to close the door properly.

Five unknown African males, described as speaking Sesotho and wearing blankets, are said to have entered the residence.

The suspects allegedly demanded money from the occupants.

The deceased reportedly handed over R3,000 to the suspects. Despite this, the suspects allegedly assaulted him with a hammer, striking him in the face. He was later found dead on a bed inside the house.

Police confirmed that the deceased, Simeon Butao Ngaiyaye, was declared dead at the scene.

His body was transported to the Sebokeng Mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Investigations are being handled by members of the local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) and visible policing officers stationed at Meyerton SAPS.

The suspects remain at large, and no arrests have been made.
