DA criticises Emfuleni leadership amidst ongoing electricity crisis
Emfuleni’s ongoing power problems have once again sparked criticism over service delivery failures.
VANDERBIJLPARK – Ongoing electricity interruptions linked to strain on the Town Substation network continue to affect several areas in Emfuleni.
Meanwhile, the DA has accused the ANC-led coalition of failing residents through poor governance and infrastructure management.
In a statement issued on Monday, Emfuleni Municipality said the Town Substation is experiencing overcurrent and frequent tripping due to high electricity demand.
Areas affected include Bonanne, Stephanopark, Bophelong, Bophelong Extensions, CW areas and parts of NW7.
Residents have been urged to reduce electricity usage by switching off non-essential appliances and avoiding high-consumption items such as geysers, ovens and kettles while officials work on a permanent solution.
Meanwhile, the DA says a prolonged power outage at the municipality’s head offices and in Debonair Park, which has reportedly continued since last week Tuesday, points to a serious breakdown in leadership and service delivery.
DA councillor and shadow MMC for Public Works, Dady Mollo, said the municipality’s inability to maintain electricity supply to its own offices raises concerns about the reliability of services provided to residents.
The DA has called for transparency on the cause of the outages, reasons for the lack of contingency measures, a timeline for full restoration and accountability for repeated infrastructure failures.
