The Feral Carer faces feeding crisis

Every month is an uphill battle for the Feral Carer NPO, and the community's support is desperately needed.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Caring for 28 feral colonies daily, which include approximately 54 feeding points, is a huge undertaking.

Farzana Ismail, the woman with a heart of gold behind The Feral Carer NPC, has been doing this since 2015.

Unfortunately, feeding operations recently came to a standstill as The Feral Carer NPC account was empty.

Caring for and feeding 28 colonies costs money, and Farzana is in desperate need of support from the local community.

“Without food, community cats are forced to roam further and further in search of something to eat, often invading student territory, placing them at increased risk and compromising their welfare,” explains Farzana.

The feral cats at the various colonies often need veterinary care.

Since 2015, what began as an act of compassion has snowballed into a mammoth mission: feeding approximately 400 community cats across 28 sites every single day.

“Every month is an uphill battle. Without the community’s support, these rescue endeavors simply cannot continue. I firmly believe it takes a village to transform the lives of these underprivileged cats.”

Because the task of maintaining these colonies is so vast, The Feral Carer cannot accept surrenders of cats or kittens. The focus must remain on the survival of the 400 lives already depending on her.

With near-daily vet visits and rising food costs, the expenses have become exorbitant.
