VANDERBIJLPARK – Seven-year-old local resident Logan Peltier has announced himself as one of the world’s top young golfers after finishing third at the prestigious U.S. Kids Golf World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Representing South Africa, the Heron Banks Golf Club member produced three outstanding rounds against one of the strongest junior fields in the world.

He finished only one shot behind joint leaders Juhan Choi of the United States and Will Veitch of Australia, who shared top honours on two under par.

The U.S. Kids Golf World Championship is widely regarded as the biggest tournament for golfers between the ages of 5 and 12.

More than 2 000 players from over 50 countries qualify each year through sanctioned events. Earning a place in the field is an achievement in itself.

After several weeks of preparation in the United States, Logan settled into the demanding Pinehurst layout and its fast, rippling greens.

He opened with a composed one-over-par round and finished with a birdie on the final hole to stay within reach of the leaders.

He followed with a one-under-par round before closing with another one-under-par performance to secure his place on the podium.

Throughout the tournament, Logan showed composure well beyond his years. He created birdie chances consistently and handled the pressure of competing against the world’s best young golfers with confidence.

His final round left him one stroke behind the leaders. His father, Lloyd Peltier, a well-known Vanderbijlpark businessman, was on the bag as his caddie throughout the championship.

Together, they shared every moment of the journey while family, friends and supporters followed their progress from home.

Logan’s coach, Almero Theron, has long regarded him as the best under-seven golfer in Africa. His third-place finish at the World Championship added weight to that assessment and underlined his standing among the game’s brightest young talents.

The result capped an impressive tour of the United States.

Before arriving at Pinehurst, Logan competed in the Under Armour World Championship, where he gained valuable experience against older players before taking on the world’s best in his own age group.

For Vanderbijlpark and Heron Banks Golf Club, Logan’s bronze-medal finish means more than a place on the podium.

His performance showed that local talent belongs on the biggest stage and highlighted the promise of a young South African golfer with a bright future.
