Vereeniging Lions induct new president
The Vereeniging Lions Club makes a lasting impact on the local community, hosting several events to support local charities.
VEREENIGING – The Vereeniging Lions Club officially ushered in the new Lionistic year with the induction of Rochelle McDonald as president for 2026–2027.
The celebration provided an opportunity to reflect on the past year’s accomplishments and honour members for their dedicated service.
A standout moment of the afternoon was the presentation of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship to former president Lion Suzanne Murray.
Named after the founder of Lions Clubs International, the award is one of the organisation’s highest honours, recognising exceptional commitment to humanitarian work.
“I believe strongly in giving back and helping those in need,” says newly elected president McDonald, who joined the club in March 2018.
“Lions allow me to make a real difference alongside people who share that same passion.
“Taking on leadership is both an honour and a responsibility, and I want to help our club grow while continuing to serve our community.”
McDonald aims to foster collaboration across all age groups within the organisation.
“Younger members bring fresh ideas, energy, and digital skills, while our long-standing members offer invaluable experience. My goal is to unite these strengths so we can learn from one another and strengthen our footprint,” she explains.
Flagship projects such as the monthly Bingo and Quiz nights at the clubhouse and the regular Book Sales at River Square Mall remain the primary lifeblood for funding their local outreach.

McDonald encourages residents to get involved: “Everyone can make a difference, whether by volunteering, donating, attending our fundraisers, or simply spreading the word. I invite the community to come meet us, see what we do, and join us in making an impact.”
