VANDERBIJLPARK – A feeling of jubilation and proudness fills Hoerskool Vanderbijlpark following their soccer league victory.
According to the school, their new team of under 17 boys won the Vaal River Soccer League which was held recently.
The school faced Sasolburg High School at Suiderlig where they defeated their opponents 2-0.
The team showed determination and resilience and made it to the finals and came back bearing the trophy to add to their cabin at the front entrance of the administration block.
Speaking to Ster, soccer coach Tsokolo Molapo (26) who has been coaching for five years said he was proud of the achievement.
“The team is new and for the boys to come at the top, left me and the school very proud.
“I started coaching pupils at the school in 2019 and due to covid, we had to stop. I then came back this year and that’s when I started to properly develop these kids,” he said.
“When I found the team, the boys were not in any tournaments and leagues.
“We enrolled them to compete in the league. Under 17 they then won the cup. This is a great achievement,” he added.
Tsokolo was responsible for coaching three teams at the school and won with one team.
Educator Tsholo Letseng (56) who is also a technical director for sports said the future of pupils at their school in sports is promising.
“I started working at the school in 2020 and when I arrived it was around Covid, and the school had taken a break in many things including sports. After rules were relaxed this year, we were excited to be in the fields.”
“We are heading in the right direction. The school is known for a good record when it comes to excelling in sports.”
Letseng urged sponsors for any donations and assistance in order to create more stars at their school.
“We are looking forward to growing sports for all these learners at our school. We are having a challenge as a school when it comes to sports facilities and as a motivation, we would like to get some sponsors to assist with anything sports,” he said.
Another teacher, who is also part of the sporting fraternity at the school, Matumo Mofokeng (41) said: “Sports help a lot with teamwork, time management and discipline. We enrolled these pupils in sports to keep them focused.”
