VAALPARK – Golf fans across the region are gearing up for the Mediclinic Invitationals, which returns to the scenic Heron Banks Golf and River Estate from 15 to 18 April.
Now firmly established as one of the standout tournaments on the Sunshine Tour, the four-day event promises world-class action on one of the Vaal River’s most picturesque layouts.
With a prize fund of R2.5 million up for grabs, many of the tour’s top professionals are expected to tee it up in this 72-hole stroke-play battle.
According to Robert Lance, director of golf at Heron Banks Gholf Club, preparations for the prestigious event are going well.
Since its launch in 2023, the Mediclinic Invitational has grown rapidly in prestige, consistently drawing strong fields and delivering memorable championships.

The tournament made its debut at Heron Banks in 2025 and returns to the venue after overwhelmingly positive feedback from players and spectators.
The estate’s par-71, links-style course designed by Danie Obermeyer winds along the Vaal River and is celebrated for its natural beauty, strategic layout and challenging shot-making demands.
With elite competition, stunning scenery and a course ready to test every facet of a golfer’s game, the 2026 edition is set to be one of the year’s headline events. Fans can expect four days of top-tier golf in an unmatched riverfront setting.
According to Lance spectators are welcome to attend the invitationals. “We cannot wait to have a crowd on the course. I still get goosebumps from last year’s crowd,” said Lance.
