VAALPARK – Ruan de Smidt closed out the Betway Big Easy Blu Label Unlimited Invitational 2 with a final-round 69 (-2) on Thursday April 30 at Heron Banks Golf & River Estate, securing a three-shot victory on a 9-under-par total of 204.
After a superb 64 on “Moving Day” gave him a one-shot lead, he maintained control throughout the final round to claim the title. Adding to the occasion, his mother carried the bag for the week, turning the win into a special family moment.
The tournament opened with England’s Daniel Smith leading after a 7-under 64 in Round 1, while South Africa’s Slade Pickering produced a bogey-free 64 in Round 2 to move into contention. The leaderboard stayed tight, reflecting the depth of the Betway Big Easy Tour field.
A memorable highlight came from amateur Nicko Venter, who made the first hole-in-one of his career on the par-3 5th during the second round.
De Smidt finished ahead of a strong group at 6-under, including Heinrich Bruiners, Leon Visser, and Smith, as the event again delivered quality golf and standout performances.
