VANDERBIJLPARK – The Vaal Triangle’s very own Joviale Mbisha has burst onto the international athletics stage, playing a starring role in South Africa’s new women’s 4x100m national record.
The young sprinter a former learner of Sasolburg High School was part of the quartet that rocked the athletics world on May 2 at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, clocking a blistering 43.22 seconds.
Competing alongside Viwe Jingqi, Kayla La Grange and Gabriella Marais, Mbisha helped demolish a record that had stood since 2000. The team’s performance signaled the arrival of a new generation of South African sprinting talent and Mbisha’s powerful leg of the relay drew widespread praise.
For the Vaal community, her achievement is especially meaningful. Having grown up in the region and developed her talent through local school competitions before rising to national level, Mbisha now stands as a role model for young athletes dreaming big.
Her journey from the tracks of the Vaal Triangle to the world stage is only beginning, but one thing is clear South Africa’s sprinting future is in very capable hands, and one of them comes straight from Sasolburg.
