Runners tackle tough hills in 21km challenge

Runners took to the streets of Morningside in the Supa Mama Savages 21.1km half marathon and 10km run/walk.

AROUND 1350 runners took part in the Supa Mama Savages 21.1km challenge half marathon and 10km run/walk on Sunday 14 August, with the start and finish at Morningside Primary School.

Bonginkosi Zwane from Phantane AC (KZNA) was the first runner in a time of 01:09:37 in the 21km event, with Anele Dlamini from Phantane AC (KZNA) second in 01:10:05 and Philani Buthelezi from KPMG third in a time of 01:10:40.

In the 10km run, Sipho Mbanjwa from Phantane AC (KZNA) was first in a time of 00:32:33, Vumani Mlaba from Durban Runner (KZNA) was second in a time of 00:32:52 and Lindokuhle Sithole from Phantane AC (KZNA) was third with a time of 00:33:00.

Nhlanhla Clement Khanyile from SANDF AC (KZNA) was first in the 10km walk in a time of 00:52:59, Thobani Wiseman Hlongwa from Umlazi Development Club was second in a time of 00:56:52 and Bradley Sander from uMhlathuze AC was third with 01:03:00.

Savages chairman, Robin Honneysett, said: “Thank you to all the runners for your camraderieship, without you we wouldn’t have had a successful event. Savages is proud to a part of the running community. Lots of tough hills were tackled and fun was had by all. We look forward to hosting you again next year!”
