Onwards and upwards
Two diverse disposals held by Consolidated Auction Group dispelled notions that the economy is heading for dire straits.

In fact if the prices paid for good, used construction machinery is anything to go by, there’s a lot of buoyancy and business is probably heading in the opposite direction – onwards and upwards.
A JCB telescopic forklift and a 45-ton excavator sold for R175 000 and R265 000 respectively, the former confirmed.
The day before, at a catering auction made up mostly of liquidated stock, particularly from well-known restaurant chain Smith & Wollensky, Chico da Silva of Consolidated again secured great prices on good lots.
It’s all a bit bewildering considering that during one of the auctions security had to take extra precautions because of National Union of Metalworkers South Africa (Numsa) strike action in and around Germiston’s industrial region.
How does one reconcile the two; strike action and its attendant economic negativity with bidder enthusiasm?
“It underscores the entrepreneurial resilience that we have in this country,” says Da Silva, “matched of course with excellent opportunities at auctions such as the ones we had earlier this week.”
In the meantime, bidders in the market for bedspring manufacturing equipment can expect a great double-disposal of loose assets and fixed property on Tuesday.
The sale includes a range of specialised machinery such as a fully computerised 2005 Spühl spring coiler with an automotive assembler.
Other high-tech items on offer include several coilers and assemblers by known brands such as Ixyan Tian, Huajian, Fies, Fides and Umit.
In addition buyers can also expect four helical framing machines, a heavy-duty wire straightener, a 12-metre motorised conveyor, at least two 380v Butt welders and a 600 CFM stationary machine.
The auction also features fixed property that, as usual, should come under the hammer first.
The property, which is situated at 7 Davies Street in Chamdor, Krugersdorp, is over 4 400m2, is zoned for industrial use and consists of two workshops that are more than 800m2 in size each, with one being almost 900m2.
The diversity of assets on offer also extends to several distribution fleet lots that include trucks, trailers and forklifts.
