Not only horses at the Durban July

The countdown has begun to one of the country's most anticipated social events on July 5.

While flamboyant fashion and horse racing are the Durban July’s biggest attractions, it seems the entertainment is going to be of a high standard too. The Afrotainment marquee, which was launched by DJ Tira in 2012, is one of the most popular entertainment venues at the event. Among the artists who will be performing are DJ Black Coffee, DJ Cndo and Big Nuz.

“The entertainment at the Durban July gets better every year,” says DJ Tira.

“This year, we have teamed up with SABC1 and Metro FM to create a great event which is full of the flavour of Durban.”

DJ Tira will also be launching his Fact: Durban Rocks clothing line, and DJ Cndo will showcase her Euphoria bag range.

Most of the country’s finest hip hop musicians will be at the Jack Daniels Boomtown marquee. Now in its sixth year, that party has rappers KO, Khuli Chana and Reason in its line-up.

“The Durban July is all about showing off,” says television presenter Katlego Maboe, who will be one of the red carpet hosts. “I particularly love the music performances because the musicians also want to show off on stage.”

Top Billing presenter Jeannie D and choreographer Somizi Mhlongo will be co-hosting the red carpet.
