Gareth Cliff to start own radio station

When word broke that shock-jock Gareth Cliff would be leaving 5fm the next question was obvious. Where to next?

Cliff seemed to give his fans a hint when he posted on his facebook page “New dawn. New day. Coming soon….. #unradio Be the first to join right here www.cliffcentral.com

Cliff did not leave 5fm alone, scooping up executive producers Thabo Modisane, Damon Kalvari, Mabale Moloi as well as news anchor Leigh-Ann Mol, who has been alongside Cliff since 2003.

While the radio DJ has said all the details will be revealed on May 1, hinting only that Cliff’s next big move would be “unscripted, uncensored, unradio”, some have suggested it may be an internet radio site.  Fans eager to learn more seemed to have answered the call as he posted on twitter that his site had already signed up a significant amount of people:

Cliff told Times Live that his new endeavour was the result of his and his business partner and manager Rina Broomberg’s determination to “think bigger”.

“[We’ve] been thinking for a long, long time about how we can deliver more to the audience and give them the really juicy stuff. Imagine, if you will, a picture of a naked woman where everything is censored except the juicy bits – that’s what people want …

“It’s going to be a lot of things. There really isn’t anything like it. Something that’s politically incorrect, something that’s unhinged, something that’s unruly, something that breaks all the boundaries down and something that’s not patronising …”

Will you follow Cliff to a new radio station?
