‘I wanted a chance to tell my story my way’ – Mam’Mkhize

Shauwn Mkhize tells The Citizen about her return to reality TV and the lessons learnt.

Entrepreneur and socialite Shauwn Mkhize is making a return to our TV screens with the upcoming second season of Kwa Mam’Mkhize.

The new season, set to debut on Showmax as an original series on 14 December, will feature fresh episodes every Tuesday.

In the first season, which was a major hit on Mzansi Magic and winner of the Best Reality Show at the Hollywood & African Prestigious Awards, viewers followed Shauwn as she reclaimed her maiden name and navigated life as a Mkhize.

Now season 2 will bring some more fresh content for viewers.

Shauwn Mkhize on the inspiration behind her reality show and personal journey

Shauwn told The Citizen what inspired her to let viewers into her personal life.

“There were a lot of media-driven narratives about who I am and my life. I wanted a chance to tell my story my way.

“The filming also happened when I was on an important journey of regaining my maiden surname. At that time I had no idea that would inspire people but it did, and I’m grateful for the support,” said Shauwn.

Reflections on season one

Shauwn also shared insights into filming the first season of Kwa Mam’Mkhize and how it influenced her and her family.

“Season one was a learning curve, I was not used to the cameras following me but I’m a fast learner.

“We have always been in the spotlight, the show humbled us though, we were surprised at the love, adoration and admiration we received. People took kindly to us as a family and we wouldn’t be here without the love from viewers and fans,” Shauwn explained.

Sneak peek into season two

She provides a preview of what viewers can look forward to this season.

“In the second season of the show, you will see the extended family of Mam’Mkhize, I’m a grandmother now, there are additions to the family tree.

“The family has grown but you will have to watch the show to find out more.”

Balancing act

Shauwn discussed how she manages the challenges of filming the show while juggling her personal and professional responsibilities.

“I’m a very organised person, so filming worked around my schedule. If I want to do something I make time for it so I had to make time for filming.

“I’ve also learned to balance things from a young age, as a mother, businesswoman, and so on. I’m very hands on therefore balance is important.

“Challenges don’t stop me from my end goal. I just see them as obstacles that I can make my way around.  I’m a solution-driven person, I don’t dwell on challenges I focus on the task at hand,” she explained.

Makhize’s intentions for viewers in season one and season two of ‘Kwa Mam’Mkhize’

With a specific goal in mind for her reality show, Shauwn talked about the message she hopes viewers will grasp from watching both the first and second seasons of Kwa Mam’Mkhize.

“For Season 1 – the theme was around self-discovery, self-confidence and self-love. Being comfortable with who you are.

“For Season 2 – the theme is centred around family. Family is where my heart is and at my core, I’m very family-oriented and will do anything to keep my family together. It’s all about family values,” she concluded.
