Lerato Kganyago fluffs Muvhango audition

Show bosses have confirmed that television presenter Lerato Kganyago has not made it onto the shortlist for the new character 'Muvhango' is set to introduce.

Producers of the SABC2 show have been auditioning a host of high-profile South African actresses in an effort to add some pizzazz to the show.

Speculation was rife that celebrity foes Kganyago and It Girl, Bonang Matheba, were in direct competition for the role of a gold digger who moves to Jozi from a rural area to land herself a rich husband.

Matheba had been under the impression that the role was tailor-made for her and did not take kindly to the discovery that she was only one of several potential candidates. As a result, she reportedly turned down the opportunity to audition because she felt producers were lying to her and only wanted to exploit her star power.

As for Kganyago, her less than impressive acting skills apparently got her nowhere.

Said a soapie insider to the Sowetan: “Lerato’s audition was one of the worst I have ever seen. Her acting was really bad. The executive producer of the show just gave her a call-back to see if anything could be salvaged.

The publication also received confirmation from ‘Muvhango’ publicist Amanda Ngudle that neither of the two women will be cast in the role.

She said: “Leratao is not on the shortlist because she was not even in the top ten. Bonang is not on the list because she never auditioned.”

Ngudle also said the rumoured animosity between the two had been “blown out of proportion” .

“There were other people that were invited to audition,” she added.
