Mzansi celebrates Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s Grammy nominations

Ladysmith Black Mambazo made South Africa proud once again after being nominated for two awards at the 2018 Grammy Awards.

The nominees for next year’s ceremony were unveiled by Andra Day in the USA on Tuesday morning. Although the likes of Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars made headlines across the globe, closer to home it was Ladysmith Black Mambazo who received all the praise.

Their album, Shaka Zulu Revisited: 30th Anniversary Celebration is nominated in the ‘Best World Music’ category, while another record, Songs of Peace & Love for Kids & Parents Around the World is nominated in the ‘Best Children’s Music Album’.

The group expressed its collective delight on the band’s official Twitter page where they wrote:

“INCREDIBLE NEWS!! The GRAMMY Awards nominated TWO of our cds this year. Best Children’s Album of 2017…Songs of Peace & Love for Kids & Parents Around the World. Best World Music Album of 2017…Shaka Zulu Revisited. WHAT INCREDIBLE NEWS!!”

The support from Twitter users, who proudly backed the South African band, was incredible:

Ladysmith Black Mambazo won its first Grammy in 1988, and has been nominated over 15 times (including these two nods) since then.

Do you think they will bring home the big prizes this time?
