Sizwe Dhlomo’s Kaya FM interview with Zulu king ‘cancelled’

Sizwe was asked why it was cancelled and answered that 'something came up' and that it was Kaya FM who made the decision.

Anticipated as a big interview on Kaya FM, the excitement quickly dissipated as soon as it started.

The radio station earlier on Thursday announced an interview with Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini was going to happen on Sizwe Dhlomo’s show between 3pm-6pm.

Listeners sent in their questions, wondering why the Zulu king had agreed to do the interview. However, Sizwe confirmed a few hours later that the interview had been called off.

Sizwe was asked why it was cancelled and answered that “something came up” and that it was Kaya FM who made the decision.

“It’s not for me to explain… but it was our decision to cancel. Nothing bad. I promise,” he tweeted.

However, Sizwe then confirmed that the royal also had an urgent meeting in Tshwane so he couldn’t make it.

Furthermore, the radio host said they could not reschedule for the following day, as he is unavailable on Friday.

“Well, the thing is I’m not around tomorrow [Friday], so we can’t really reschedule. By the way, the king offered to do it telephonically but that’s not ideal.”

Commenters on Sizwe’s timeline wondered if the Zulu king’s team looked through the opinionated star’s tweets and decided it may have been too controversial.

Twitter users also joked that the Zulu king may rather do his interview with MacG on his popular Podcast & Chill.

All eyes have been on the radio station recently since the axing of Unathi Nkayi and the confrontation with Sizwe that lead to her firing.

The former Kaya FM presenter recently shared screenshots of correspondence to support the claim that she has been “silenced” by the radio station.

“I need to say something about Kaya’s claim that it ‘recognises and respects the right to freedom speech’.”

She shared a picture of her communication with the station on 17 November, which detailed the termination of her contract.
