Five festive movies and shows to watch this December

It may be that you are running low on festive cheer this time of the year, considering all that has been happening with the Covid-19 pandemic and the new variant. That is exactly why it might be a good idea to pen down some must-watch movies and shows for December.

Vrystaat Klank en Klassik: Baroque to Broadway

In this TV concert, soprano Magdalene Minnaar and pianist Maryke Johnson bring a gripping programme with popular works from Baroque to the classical era, just in time for Christmas.

Watch the concert on kykNET (DStv channel 144) on 19 December at 10.30am. It will also air on kykNET NOU! (DStv channel 146) at 12pm on the same day.

‘Asseblief en Dankie’ – A must-watch festive movie

This 90-minute Christmas movie with Crystal Donna Roberts and Laudo Liebenberg is sure to bring some festive cheer and renewed hope for humanity. A homeless woman saves the life of a wealthy CEO and in an unusual moment of Christmas spirit, he invites her to recover in his luxury penthouse.

The movie will be aired on 25 December at 8pm on kykNET, DStv channel 144.

‘’n Ster vir Kersfees’

kykNET’s Stella, Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, Robbie Kruse and Solomon Cupido ensures a Christmas adventure in December, with a Christmas concert special.

In noble pursuit of true Christmas spirit, Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, Robbie Kruse and Stella are at the heart of the storyline, leading viewers from star to star and song to song while travelling through the country, visiting many of kykNET’s favourite people and places.

It airs on 24 December at 9pm on kykNET (DStv channel 144) and 24 December at 9pm on kykNET&kie (DStv channel 145) and 26 December at 3.30pm on kykNET NOU! (Dstv channel 146).

André Rieu: Home for Christmas

While many South Africans may be at home for Christmas considering the current Covid-19 situation, this might just be the television concert you need.

On 26 December, you can watch André Rieu hold a festive Christmas concert at his house, a medieval castle in Maastricht. He is joined by the Johann Strauss orchestra, soloists and choir, and the concert will include 26 beautiful Christmas songs.

Watch the concert on 24 December at 9pm on fliekNET (DStv channel 146) and on 26 December at 8pm on kykNET (DStv channel 144).

Watch ‘Onder die Sterre’ this December

Jannie Moolman, Zanne Stapelberg, Elvis Blue, Sima Mashazi and Lize Beekman will be entertaining viewers at home together with the Cape Solists Choir, performing beloved Christmas songs as well as some contemporary songs.

Watch the concert on kykNET&kie (DStv channel 145) on 24 December at 9pm.

Apart from these five festive viewings, another movie not to be missed this month, is Derick Muller’s Wesens with Albert Maritz, Pietie Beyers, Randie Januarie and Conradie van Heerden.

In the movie, which is set in 1967, South African Republican Intelligence Agents investigate an unidentified object that landed on a farm in the desolate Karoo.

This movie, airing on 18 December at 8pm on kykNET (DStv channel 144), will keep you guessing ‘til the end.
