Residents of Ward 37 in Germiston have launched a formal campaign calling for the removal of their ward councillor, Ivan Naidoo, citing concerns over his leadership and his alleged failure to address persistent community issues.

Responding to the concerns, Naidoo acknowledged the service delivery challenges, pointing to larger systemic issues.

“These are service delivery issues that are raised. As you know, service delivery in the city is limited, and in some areas, minimal work has been done,” said Naidoo.

The councillor explained that he frequently raises local issues with the relevant departments but is often hampered by logistical challenges.

“There are either no parts, broken vehicles, or budget constraints,” he noted.

“I hold public meetings to demand accountability from the executive on service delivery matters. We escalate and even beg for services to be rendered, but feedback is limited when departments do not respond.”

In response to calls for his resignation, Naidoo expressed that he saw no reason to step down.

“I have not violated the Structures Act, MFMA, or Systems Act, nor committed any criminal offences.

“These issues are not unique to Ward 37. I urge residents to work with their councillors rather than against them,” he stated.
