Fabulous reads: Take a bite from Bardugo’s golden novel
Book review - King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo.

King of Scars, Leigh Bardugo, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 9781510105669
FROM its beautifully glossy gold cover to the indelible story that adorns its pages, Leigh Bardugo will once again have you transfixed to each and every word as she unravels her latest tale in the Grishaverse.
The last time her readers truly visited the colourful and dangerous world she crafted was with Crooked Kingdom, a dark tale filled with twists, turns and intrigue. The first chapter in this new duology is truly spine-chilling and is reminiscent of her intricately woven words from the Six of Crows series. Shortly after, the writing takes a lighter, more colourful tone, but this does not mean it is any less intriguing.

Nikolai Lantsov rules over Ravka but his enemies have continued to encroach on his weakened borders while he battles a demon within himself. To save both himself and his country, he partners up with his powerful Grisha general, Zoya, and a monk to unearth secrets that could help free him from darkness and empower his people.
The book also reintroduces us to Nina, arguably my favourite character from the Six of Crows duology. She is feisty, headstrong and driven and makes for an absolutely entertaining read. She is on a mission to save and free as many Grisha as she can from the clutches of certain death in the icy kingdom of Fjerda. It is her second task, the one where she will finally lay her dearly departed Matthais to rest, is the one she battles with the most.
Many of the characters are familiar and Leigh switches between King Nikolai, Nina and Zoya with ease. If you enjoyed any of Leigh’s other work, you’re in for a real treat with this one.
