Award-winning Restaurant Mosaic sells its wine cellar

Restaurant Mosaic is closing down in March and will gradually sell 85,000 bottles of wine from its award-winning wine cellar to the public.

Award-winning Restaurant Mosaic is closing its doors at the end of March and as it bows out it will be doing things a bit differently.

The restaurant, headed by chef Chantel Dartnall, featured in the top 200 of the La Liste top restaurants in the world in 2019 and has won numerous food awards over the years.

Fast forward to 2021 the restaurant will be no more and its popular wine cellar is offering some of its wines for sale.

Wines collected over the years by Mosaic range from illustrious estates in France and proudly South African wines to champagne and brandies amount to a collection of more than 85,000 bottles and 5,000 different wine brands.

Chef Dartnall, cellar master Cobus du Plessis and sommelier Moses Magwaza made the announcement on Monday that the public will get this unique chance to purchase contents of the wine cellar.

If you are a wine connoisseur, some of the vino is from the vintages of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti stretching over 30 years, aged Bordeaux from places such as Petrus, Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild and Château d’Yquem.

Mari Dartnall, general manager of specialist fine wine importer Great Domaines said, despite the bittersweet goodbye, patrons wanted to get the chance to purchase some of the stellar wines.

If you have concerns about the state of the wine, Great Domaines has been appointed to ensure the protection of the cellar.

The establishment is planning to sell all its wine cellar contents within the next three years to five years. Magwaza will be overseeing this “slow release of wines”, to ensure they attract buyers from international and local wine markets.

Great Domaines will ensure that different parts of the cellar are made available at intervals.
