Build-up of traffic on N4 about to peak

With the festive season well underway, roads are becoming increasingly busy and three people have already lost their lives on the N4.

MBOMBELA – With the festive season well underway, roads are becoming increasingly busy and three people have already lost their lives on the N4.

“So far the road has been quieter than expected, but we are anticipating that the traffic will increase this afternoon (Friday),” says Ms Solange Soares-Nicholson, spokesman for TRAC.

Even though the border was relatively busy on Tuesday and Wednesday, officials reported that it was manageable and that the N4 was not affected by the increase of traffic at the border. Over the coming weeks, we can fully expect to see lots of roadblocks, licence checking, breathalysing and many traffic officers under trees with speed-measuring devices.

The Automobile Association (AA) says it almost every year: a traffic incident is almost always preceded by a violation of the law. Often, it is not caused by speeding.

It adds to the importance of planning your trip wisely and to give yourself enough time to get to your destination, bearing in mind that the roads are busier this time of year and a trip may take longer than normal. “This is very important as an irate, impatient driver is a dangerous driver,” Soares-Nicholson adds.

TRAC wishes to remind road users that its 24-hour help desk and TRACAssist teams are available 24/7 throughout the festive season and should you experience, or witness any problems on the N4, you simply need to contact them and they will come and assist you, free of charge.

The help desk can also be contacted any time of day or night for general enquiries and information pertaining to the N4. The number is 0800-87-22-64.
