Mpumalanga SAPS arrests suspects for alleged possession of marijuana, gold-bearing material

Four men were recently arrested by the Mpumalanga SAPS in three separate incidents.

The Mpumalanga SAPS recently made multiple arrests of suspects for the alleged possession of marijuana and gold-bearing materials.

A provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the first arrest was made by a Jeppes Reef Border Policing task team when they found a 23-year-old man in the alleged possession of marijuana with an estimated street value of R5 000.

He said the dagga weighed just over 1kg.

Mohlala said in a separate incident, the police arrested a 21-year-old man from eSwatini for the alleged possession of gold-bearing material.

He said the suspects were expected to make their first court appearance in Tonga Magistrate’s Court today, Monday April 3.

It was unclear what the outcome of the court appearance was at the time of publishing.

Meanwhile, Mohlala said a further two suspects, aged 30 and 32, also from eSwatini, were recently arrested and were due to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court today.

He said the men were allegedly found in possession of 11 bags of marijuana weighing 157kg, with an estimated street value of over R600 000.

He said it is believed the men were on their way to Tzaneen when they were caught by the police.

The outcome of their court appearance was not known at the time of publishing.
