Another robber badly beaten by angry community members

TONGA – A 31-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being assaulted by community members of KaHoyi Trust. This after he apparently robbed a foreign national’s spaza shop.
It was around 13:30 last Tuesday when the man and his co-accused robbed a 48-year-old Pakistan national. According to the shop owner, he was inside his store with his assistant when they were approached by two men.
The suspects threatened him with a panga and demanded all his money. The victim allegedly said he did not have any money in response.
He was searched and an undisclosed amount of cash in his pocket was stolen before they fled on foot. Community members gave chase and caught one of the suspects and assaulted him. According to Tonga SAPS spokesman, Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, as soon as police were informed, they rushed to the scene and arrested him.
By the time of going to print he was still under police guard at Tonga Hospital. Meanwhile the other suspect was still at large.
Tonga Police Station acting station commander, Lt Col Bhutani Sibiya, appeals to the community to assist with information of the whereabouts of the other thief.
