Toastmasters welcome ‘new normal’ with first meeting
Crocodile Toastmasters embraced the "new normal" on Monday September 14 when it held its first club meeting in person after months of meeting only on various online platforms.

Eight members and three guests congregated at Emnotweni Arena for an evening filled with prepared speeches and also a chance to practise impromptu speaking. The evening started with the grammarian Makhosonke Magudulela, who introduced the word of the day, which was “care”.

The theme of the evening, “It Starts With Us”, was incorporated by the Toastmaster of the evening, Tina Baer, as well as by Sandra Jacobs, Errol Kerst and Carlo da Cunha who all gave speeches. Jacobs’s inspirational speech about back-road travelling was voted the best speech.

General evaluator Zani Barrish led an innovative evaluation session where all the club members had the opportunity to provide constructive feedback to the speakers. “For months we have been speaking on an online platform where we could not practise our body language or voice projection. It is good for all our speakers to speak in front of a live audience again and practise the basics,” said Barrish.
