Ammunition found in Calcutta, man arrested

A man in the Calcutta area was arrested for possession of ammunition on Tuesday April 23.

A 29-year-old Calcutta man was arrested by SAPS members during Operation Vala Umgodi, after he had allegedly been found to be in the unlawful possession of ammunition in the early hours of Tuesday April 23.

A provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the SAPS was conducting the operation in the area throughout Monday night, April 22, into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He said the operation saw law enforcement officials finding three live rounds of ammunition in the man’s house. Mdhluli said the man could not provide a permit or licence to possess the ammunition and was arrested.

He was expected to appear in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court soon. Further information regarding this appearance was not available at the time of publishing.
