Two men arrested for possession of dagga of more than R4.7m

Oupa Simon Mohape and Siyabonga Eric Sine were apprehended by border police near the Oshoek Port of Entry with dagga, weighing about 1,133 kg. The two men faced charges related to the possession of the illegal substance, with a street value exceeding R4.7 million

The border police arrested Oupa Simon Mohape (33) and Siyabonga Eric Sine (34) on Monday April 22 when they were found in possession of dagga.

While they were conducting patrol duties near the Oshoek Port of Entry, the police members stopped a Toyata Hilux bakkie and conducted a search. They discovered some large wrapped packages, filled with dagga. Mohape and Sine were subsequently arrested on dagga-related charges. The seized dagga weighed in at 1 133kg, with an estimated street value of about R4 758 600.

The two men appeared in the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court later that same day and the case was postponed to April 29 for a formal bail application, said Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a provincial police spokesperson.
